“But the promise of the long sentence is that it will take you beyond the known, far from shore, into depths and mysteries you can’t get your mind, or most of your words, around.” (Click above for full article.)
I tried Twitter and have all but given up on it. I get it when reading the news or receiving notifications from literary journals or when it points to other books or articles that I find interesting and worthwhile, but by and large, I don’t get it. Especially not for what I have to say.
I try not to generalize on matters of social media. Plenty of people find plenty of ways to use all of it for good, in some form or another. I can’t quite find my niche. All the people who know say that if I ever get the opportunity to sell a book, I’ll need a niche. So I’ll keep trying.
This article on taking more time to say what we have to say is a good one. I’m not going to make it my mantra because I tend to think that life moves in waves and it all cycles— back and forth and around. I’m already hearing about hotels going for over $1000/night simply because they don’t allow access to internet or television, so no Twitter or Facebook. If we’re paying that much to disconnect, we’ll find ways, eventually, to do it in our daily lives. We’ll find the balance eventually, or like me, we’ll just keep working on it. I’m fine with that.
